8. Country profile: The eastern half of former Czechoslovakia. Slovakia is full of fairytale castles and spa resorts as well as numerous mountains and caves. One of the most interesting regions is the Slovak Karst, a region of limestone canyons and caves including the Domica Cave, said to be the largest in the world. Slovakia is also a prime hiking location, with over 600 miles of hiking trails in the High Tatras.

The weather is damp and continental with warm, showery summers and cold, snowy winters.
