Creu Cyfle - Cultural Explosion in the 2005 National Eisteddfod
This year’s National Eisteddfod in Snowdonia and the area was a roaring success on many levels, and especially from the point of view of Creu Cyfle – Cultural Explosion – it was an extremely busy and successful one. We had a lot of fun, and so much positive reaction to all our activities. There was a lot of excitement on our stall and we attracted the attention of the media every day.
The Eisteddfod is Wales’ largest cultural festival, based on 800 years of tradition. It is also one of Europe’s largest moving festivals. The range of activities includes competitions in all aspects of the arts; fringe performances and majestic ceremonies including the crowning and the chairing of the bards. In addition to activities held in the main pavilion, it houses over 300 trade stands along with a literary pavilion, a music studio, a movement and dance theatre and a purpose built theatre. The event which attracts around 160,000 visitors, is set in a different location each year, and in 2005 was held at the Faenol Estate near Bangor.
