Whilst I agree with virtually all of what was suggested in the D/Post
article and the article on your page, by John Osmond, would it not
be possible to also look at other smaller improvements which would
certainly help us all.. For instance, the A55. When the A55 was built,
across North Wales, nothing was done about connections onto the road.
A525 down the Vale of Clwyd becomes absolutely congested at St Asaph.
The same again in Abergele when you try and leave for the A548 South,
and even the beloved A470 at Llandudno Jtn South becomes stagnant
at Glan Conwy and Llanrwst. Just as was mentioned about the A470,
we don’t need to go from Llandudno to Cardiff in one go, some
of us need to get off and on the main arteries at different points
every day. Some of the improvements could be done by improving local
roads and the cost would not need to be ridiculously high. It seems
that any road improvement has to be of motorway standard, even when
improving ‘B’ class or lesser roads. Why?? Why can’t
a road improvement be done by getting the worst parts of any road
up to the width/quality of the rest of the same road, where this is
deemed good enough for the projected needs of the road in question?
I suggested recently, to a local AM, about improving the B5348, St
Asaph to Llandudno Jtn. The reply was that it would cost too much,
the reason being, the standard would have to be adhered to and this
would be a prohibitive cost. If this road was improved to the standard
of its best parts it could solve the problem of building a bypass
to get the A548 through Abergele.
These are only examples that I personally travel along often, but
I am sure that simpler improvements would be a far better idea than
spending too much money one or two roads, then leaving everyone congested,
just off the road in question !!!!
