The Future of Cardiff’s Schools - A case study in reorganisation

28th September 2010

Victor Salvi Room, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay 6.00pm - 8.00pm

With Chris Jones, Cardiff’s Head of Schools and Lifelong Learning, and Chris Llewellyn, WLGA Head of Education

Chris Jones, Cardiff’s Head of Schools and Lifelong Learning, will discuss the pressure of falling school roll and the relationship between Welsh and English-medium education in planning the future of the city’s schools. He will address:

These issues have been brought to a head by Cardiff County Council’s proposed reorganisation of schools in the Canton area of the city – a controversy that has still to be resolved. However, this is just one part of a wider picture in Cardiff and, indeed, in Wales as a whole. This seminar is aiming to provide basic information and background on the issues which need to be understood within an all-Wales perspective. Accordingly, Chris Llewellyn, Head of Education with the Welsh Local Government Association, will look at the national picture, the number of surplus places in Wales, where they are and their cost.
