Inspire Wales Awards 2010

A MESSAgE fRoM thE MEDIA PARtNER

The Western Mail, as national newspaper for Wales, is delighted once more to be partnering the Institute of Welsh Affairs for the Inspire Wales Awards.

The concept of the awards is to recognise people who inspire, people who lead, who go that extra mile and make things happen.

This may be in business where the bottom line is the motivator, or in science and technology where discovery is the driver, or in sport where delivering performance matters.

Or it could be in education where improving the mind is the reward; the arts where greater awareness of Welsh culture is the ambition, or in the environment where securing the world’s resources is the ultimate goal.

Whatever the category, the Inspire Wales Awards celebrates people who, as they go about their lives and livelihoods, predominantly put other people first.

At a time when a flat-lining economy saturates our daily news bulletins, the opportunity to recognise and reward inspirational people becomes more vital than ever.

The best way to kick start a flagging economy is to talk it up, to find and emphasise the positives, to be half-full rather than half empty.

The entry to the inaugural awards in 2010 was superb, last year’s was exceptional and I positively predict that 2012 will be stronger still because there are people out there who are doing wonderful things in their business, in their communities or within their families.

That’s why the Western Mail is urging people to step forward with their nominations of people who are inspirational. In turn, we too will be inspired.
